""Most of the WELL KNOWN dj's who produce dont even know how to use a sequencer, they just hire a sound engineer and or music producer to do all the work, they just seat next to them and teel them " I like this loop" or "maybe a hi-hat here and there"."
in defense, i dont think that its all that bad...the dj brings other knowledge to the table that the engineer might not have(trends, arrangement knowledge, etc)...in this case the dj gives "ideas", and the engineer executes them...it becomes a problem when the dj dismisses the engineer in the end or doesn't compensate properly in whatever ways.. I used to think like this also, but a good relationship with a dj that has solid ideas is a good thing that both can benefit from. Its not easy being a producer/engineer/composer/sound designer/arranger at the same time all the time.

"Sasha def knows his shit, and produce on his own, thats for sure. But he is in the position to make his projects much bigger then most of us. His main long term partner has been Charlie May(from Spooky).
"Its no secret that the guy is a genius and knows how to mold and shape sound. "Emissions of Light and Sound" is an album of his that caught me by surprise.
"
"
At their peak Spooky separated to pursue independent projects. May and Sasha began their professional relationship with a soundtrack for the hit Playstation game Wipeout 3, which quickly led to the ‘Xpander’ EP.
On the origins behind the classic progressive house cut, May says, “I had this little part that sat on a DAT tape for about five years. Then I met Sasha and I asked him, ‘What do you think of this,’ and he said ‘That’s great. let’s finish it’.
“We [spooky] had approached it from a producer’s point of view, but Sasha made it into more of a DJ record. He brought his perspective to bear on it to make it all happen, and when you have two different perspectives it can often sort out a problem and something great can happen.”
